Methodology — UK Housing & Property Finder

The problem

Householders, landlords, small property businesses and local community groups lose time finding the right open housing, land and property datasets (affordability, land availability, ownership) scattered across data.gov.uk. There is no single plain-language way to surface the relevant ones.

What this tool does

• Queries the open, no-auth data.gov.uk CKAN Search API for datasets matching a keyword.
• Deterministically classifies each result into a sector bucket (keyword match — no machine learning).
• Links to the official publisher page.

Data source & honesty

Results are fetched live from the CKAN API at request time. If unavailable, the tool shows an honest 'source unavailable' message — it never fabricates results. Economic impact is unquantified until measured.
